Tournament Rules:

Cornhole Boards

  • Place boards on a flat surface 33 feet apart (hole to hole).
  • Junior boards distance is 21 from designated marker to hole.

Cornhole Bags

  • There are eight bags, with four of each color.
  • The standard Cornhole bags are 6″ x 6″ and have 1 pound of corn/material inside.

Playing the Game

  • Choose randomly which player/team starts. Players must stand level with or behind the front of their cornhole board and alternate tosses toward the other board.
  • Stepping in front of the board is a foul and the throw is voided & taken off the board.
  • Any player can choose to throw from the same side as their opponent or the opposite side.
  • When both players have tossed all their cornhole bags, points are tallied.

Scoring System

  • 3 points earned for a cornhole bag that goes through the hole.
  • 1 point for a cornhole bag anywhere else on the board.
    • 1 point is awarded if the bag is hanging off the edge but not touching the ground.
  • 0 points for a cornhole bag that is on the board, but also touching the ground.
  • 0 points for a cornhole bag that is hanging off the edge of the board and is also resting on a cornhole bag that is on the ground. If you can remove the bag on the ground without the bag on the board falling off or touching the ground, then 1 point is given.

Tally the Points

  • Bags only score points for their final resting place at the end of the round. If a bag is in a scoring position but is knocked off or into another scoring position, the bag’s final position is what counts.
    • Example: If a bag was tossed onto the board for 1 point, and then gets knocked through the hole by another bag, 3 points are awarded. Similarly if a bag is on the board for 1point and gets knocked off, no points are awarded for that bag.
  • The team with the highest score in the round earns the difference between their score for the round and their opponent’s score for the round.
    • Example: In the first round, Team A tossed 1 bag into the hole (3 points) and one bag onto the board (1 point). Team B tossed 2 bags onto the board. All other bags missed or were knocked off the board. Team A won the round 4-2, so they add 2 points to their score for the game and lead overall team or individual score 2-0.
    • If both teams score the same number of points, the round is a draw.

Who Goes First and Winning the Game

  • The player/team that won the previous round tosses first in the next round. If the previous round was a draw, then the last team to win a round tosses first.
  • The first team to reach 21 points wins the game.
  • Win by 2 points or more. No slaughter rule play to 21.
